Abergavenny town mayor Tudor Thomas has expressed his frustration at graffiti seen in the town, as the bus station became the latest building to be defaced last week. Photos of the graffiti were posted on the Abergavenny Voice Facebook page, drawing plenty of reaction once again from the town residents.

The incident is the second reporting of graffiti seen in town in a matter of weeks, following numerous signs and electrical boxes in Castle Street and St John’s Square being defaced, as seen in last week’s Abergavenny Chronicle newspaper. Staff from Monmouthshire County Council were redeployed from highways and tree cutting to remove the graffiti and were called out once again last Friday for the same purpose. Town Mayor Tudor Thomas told the Chronicle of his anger at yet another act of vandalism seen in Abergavenny. He said: "I checked up on the graffiti at the bus station, and reported it to Nigel Leaworthy , MCC Operations Manager on Friday. ’’He obviously got his team to remove the graffiti off the toilets in the bus station. "It was quickly removed and I am grateful to Nigel Leaworthy and his operations team. Some of them spent hours last week painting out graffiti from the previous week, which was impossible to remove. "I am very unhappy with this latest incident of graffiti appearing in the town and in my ward. ’’This is costing MCC thousands of pounds and in the long-term council tax payers. ’’It is just a complete waste of time, resources and money at a time when there are huge demands on council budgets." The post of the graffiti on social media last week attracted much debate from local residents, with many commenting that it was a ’complete mess’ that damaged the town’s reputation with one farmer commenting, "I could do a better job than that with my sheep markers". Other social media users argued that the incident shows that a public space or mural is needed for individuals to express themselves, with one user commenting "Maybe we should make a graffiti wall in town, so it’s kept in one place and won’t matter".
