MORE than 90 per cent of the pupils at one Abergavenny primary school dressed up as the weird and wonderful to celebrate World Book Day.

The deputy headteacher at Llantilio Pertholey school Mrs Nicola Balkwill said: "We had a huge response from the children and their parents, it has been fabulous and we’ve had such inventive ideas with some really good original costumes. This year there were a few more unusual book choices like the boy from Oliver Jeffers’ The Way Back Home.

"There were many princesses and characters from Roald Dahl and Harry Potter books, with less from David Walliams than last year. We had a couple of wallies from Where’s Wally and even Scooby Doo and Shaggy the dog.  The staff always dress up for the occasion and I’d like to thank them for supporting this special day, this year as the many coloured crayons from the book The Day The Crayons Quit."
