A GROUP of mums from Abergavenny and surrounding areas will be marking National Breastfeeding Week (June 20th to 26th) by hosting a picnic at Linda Vista gardens on Saturday, June 23rd.

Abergavenny Breastfeeding Group have been supporting mothers who choose to breastfeed for the past eight years and now boast a burgeoning membership with more than 400 followers of their Facebook page.

One of the event organisers, Bethan Harrington, told the Chronicle, ‘Mothers will always help mothers and it’s good that so many have joined to support each other.

‘We are inviting all of our families, past and present to join us in this get together. Anyone who has not been in touch before can join in by visiting our Facebook page.

‘Bring a blanket and a picnic lunch, we will provide the cakes and entertainment, join us for a catch up. We’d love to see how you and your little ones are getting on.’

Bethan added, ‘Abergavenny is brilliant and a very supporting place for breastfeeding mums. We are currently making strides in hospital where we are visiting brand new mums to offer support over the first couple of days of breast feeding.’

The Group hold weekly group sessions on Tuesdays and has a presence at the Family Café at the Community Centre on Park Street.

The Grand Picnic will take place on Saturday, June 23, from 11am-1pm in Linda Vista Gardens - just look for the bunting.
