Nurses Sharon Havard and Sarah Davies are using their passion for upholstery, craft and painting to showcase artistic flair and raise proceeds for Breast Cancer Care UK at Talybont Vintage, Retro & Artisan Fair on Saturday, August 5.
Following major surgery in 2015, Sharon became ‘determined’ to turn her efforts towards improving awareness and raising funds for organisations which had helped during her illness and later recovery. After raising £1,000 for the Cardiff Breast Centre in Llandough by completing the South Wales Three Peaks Gold Route with husband Gareth, Sharon reignited her passion for upholstery in up-cycling furniture for her own home and family.
When self-taught artist Sarah Davies heard that friends Kevin and John of Cow & Ghost Vintage were organising a local vintage show, she jumped at the opportunity to organise a stall with work colleague Sharon to raise proceeds and showcase the pair’s artistic ability. Their stall will feature an “eclectic mix of up-cycled furniture, retro china and linens” and Sarah’s original watercolours done in her own ‘unique style’. Both work as part of the nursing team at Old Station Surgery in Abergavenny, and say that colleagues, friends and family have been a “huge support”.
All proceeds from Sharon’s sales will be donated to Breast Cancer Care UK, which support those affected by the disease following diagnosis both locally and nationally. More information will be available on the day.
The Talybont Vintage, Retro and Artisan Fair will be held in the Henderson Village Hall, Talybont-on-Usk on Saturday the 5th of August, with over 20 traders of vintage and retro clothing, miscellany and individual curios, as well as homemade foods, welsh blankets, jewellery and up-cycled artifacts, with an outside classic car and motorbike display. Refreshments available. Entry £1 for adults and free for children.
More examples of Sharon and Sarah’s work can be found on their Facebook pages at ‘Reloved & Eclectic’ and ‘The Turquoise Sunflower’ respectively.
