AN Abergavenny resident has expressed concerns about 'boy racers' in the town's Fairfield Car Park, causing a disturbance to neighbours.
Julia Jones told the Chronicle, "They congregate almost every night and their numbers seem to be growing by the day. They speed around the streets around the park and use it as a racetrack, we can hear them at night even with the windows shut.
"There's the obvious risks to themselves and others as they zoom around the streets but quite often they just sit there revving their engines, playing loud music and beeping their horns causing much annoyance to the local residents."
Julia also spoke out saying that she and others felt that they are being sacrificed as those involved have been moved on from other 'hot spots' and is worried the local police aren't doing much about stopping this situation, and say that while the police and MCC have been informed, nothing much seems to be happening. However Gwent Police has said they are working with local officers to address the situation, and are urging others who are concerned by this to come forward.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said, ""We are aware of concerns being raised by local residents about cars gathering in Fairfield Car Park, as well as complaints of anti-social driving and excessive noise.
"The local Neighbourhood Policing Team has been working to address these issues by carrying out enforcement and education operations, as well as liaising with partners to find the best solution to the problem. This work continues.
"We would be interested in hearing from local residents who are affected by the problem so we can find the most appropriate resolution. Please contact the team on 101 or email [email protected]">[email protected]"
