People from all over Abergavenny and the surrounding areas have rallied round a family who have suffered the death of two young relatives who were victims of a crash on the M4.

Jayden-Lee Wheaton, aged three, who was in a critical condition, following the collision on Saturday February 5, died. just days after his four year old sister Gracie-Ann was killed in the crash.

A statement released by Gwent Police on Monday (February 14) said: ‘‘The three-year-old boy who was in a critical condition, following a collision on the M4 on Saturday February 5, has sadly died.

‘‘He was one of four occupants of a car who were all taken to hospital.

‘‘A four-year-old girl also died following the collision, which involved a car and a van westbound, between junction 28 – 29, at about 1.45pm.

‘‘A woman and a man both received hospital treatment.

‘‘A 41-year-old man appeared before Newport Magistrates Court on February 7 charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two offences of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was remanded into custody.

‘‘Enquiries are continuing and anyone with dash-cam footage, or any information that could help the investigation, is asked to call 101, quoting 2200041245, or you can direct message police on Facebook or Twitter.’’

The driver has since been named as Martin Newman of South Avenue in Croeserw.

Relatives of the children live in Abergavenny and they launched a GoFundMe page to help pay for the funerals of the two youngsters.

Jamie Lucas and the rest of his family have been overwhelmed by the response which has so far raised £14,618.

Jamie said: ‘‘I am beyond heartbroken to write this, but after five days of fighting, my cousin Jayden-Lee, aged three, has passed away.

‘‘He is now reunited with Gracie-Ann, aged four.

‘‘Jayden-Lee was a bright soul and made the grey day turn blue. I am honestly lost for words. R.I.P, Jayden-Lee. I hope you and Gracie-Ann are behaving up there.
