Blaenavon Blues - 4

Cwmffrwdoer Sports - 1

BLAENAVON Blues bagged a valuable three points on Saturday and sent local rivals Cwmffrwdoer Sports a bit closer to the Gwent County division one trap door, courtesy of hat-trick hero Josh Bull

The Blues new playing surface at the Memorial ground was in superb condition considering the amount of rain that has fallen during the previous week. Yet even with the immaculate playing surface it was hard work for both sides to play football due to the gale force winds howling around the rather exposed ground.

The Blues started the brighter and were unlucky not to have taken an early lead, as Josh Bull and Matthew 'Berba' Cox caused the 'Doer's defence all sorts of problems.

It was however Cwmffrwdoer who took the early advantage when an attack down their right allowed the 'Doer' to get in behind the Blues, cross the ball into the box and allow the 'Doer's' front man to fire home.

Blaenavon were soon back on level terms when skipper Lee Wathen ghosted into the visitors box and coolly slotted home. Josh Bull then put the Blues' noses in front with a well taken finish.

Playing up the slope and into the wind in the second half the Blues young side played some good passing football and Bull got his second of the game giving the Blues a two goal cushion. The young striker was causing the visitors' defence all sorts of problems with his close control and skill and soon got his hat-trick with a superb shot from the edge of the box which flew into the top corner.

The Blues attacking trio of Bull, Matthew Cox and Jim Cox linked up very well all afternoon and showed some real quality.

However, the Blues man of the match was Ryan Simons who put in a shift in the centre of midfield and worked tirelessly for the whole 90 minutes, steadfastly retaining possession.

This weekend the Blues welcome Pentwynmawr to the Memorial ground for a 2.15pm kick off for another vital league game.

Govilon - 1

Undy - 7

GOVILON found Gwent County division one league leaders Undy Athletic too much to handle as they slumped to their heaviest defeat of the season.

In a match played in strong gales, Govilon utilised the wind at their backs to take the lead after

15 minutes when Dean Morgan set up Ben Bannon for him to net with a close range effort.

Govilon almost increased their lead immediately when Craig Thomas forced a fine save from Brimble in the Undy goal.

Undy stole Govilon's lead on the half hour mark when they fired home from a free kick on the edge of the box. They edged further ahead on the stroke of half time with a volleyed shot.

Five minutes into the second half Undy increased their lead further with another volleyed effort. Their fourth goal saw the Govilon defence undone again with some neat passing.

A crossed ball from a free kick saw the visitors head home for number five, and then a long range strike found the net as they notched up goal number six.

More Govilon woe followed when goalkeeper Morris spilled a shot which landed on the goal line and provided Undy with a simple tap-in.

Govilon will look to put Saturday's nightmare behind them when they travel to Abertillery Excelsiors this weekend for a 2.00pm kick-off.

Elsewhere in Gwent County division two, the Mardy were on the wrong end of a 4-1 battering from Rogerstone.

Meanwhile in Gwent County division three, the Abergavenny Thursdays just missed out on a rare taste of victory when they lost at Pen-y-Pound to Caldicot Castle who beat them 2-3.

The Thursdays now sit third from bottom on ten points having recorded only three wins from a possible 16.
