Monmouthshire Women's Aid (WAIMON) is celebrating after winning a national award for its work with young boys who have experienced domestic abuse.
Cymorth Cymru's Promoting Independence Awards (PIAs) celebrate the excellent work being carried out to help some of the most marginalised and at risk people in our communities to live as independently as they possibly can, and build a brighter future after a housing crisis or stressful period in their lives.
The Empowering Survivors Award, sponsored by Welsh Women's Aid, celebrates the achievements of services that empower survivors of domestic or sexual abuse to regain control of their lives.
WAIMON's mentoring project is designed to empower children who have survived domestic and/or sexual abuse. The mentoring project provides an opportunity for children who have experienced domestic abuse to receive intensive support in their own right. The project currently supports boys aged between five and 18 through a combination of one to one mentoring and group work.
Cymorth Director, Auriol Miller, said 'WAIMON's entry was an excellent example of working with a specific cohort of domestic abuse victims, in this case young boys. Their submission showed clear evidence of the work done to improve the lives of these young victims of domestic abuse and a commitment to working with the most marginalised of young males to restore their self esteem and support them to reintegrate into society.'
On behalf of Cymorth and our judges I'd like to congratulate WAIMON on their success, and wish them the very best of luck going forward.'
The PIAs took place on Friday December 5 at the Radisson Blu in Cardiff.
Awards were presented in 12 categories. For more information please visit promotingindependenceawards.org.uk
