THE Friends of Cwmdu Music are welcoming back oboist Ruth Watson for their first concert of the 2016 season.

Ruth has performed at Cwmdu many times in the past, most notably as a soloist with the Gwent Chamber Orchestra under David Gedge.

She is now joined by two other outstanding musicians, John Hymas (viola) and Jeremy Fisher (piano), to provide a memorable evening of Romantic Trios.

The concert, including music by Brahms, Kahn, Klughardt, Loeffler and Yvon, will be held at St Michael and All Angels Church, Cwmdu on Saturday March 5 at 7.30 pm.

As an experiment this year, the Friends are also hosting an ‘Artist (or Maker) in Residence’ at each concert.

To start the ball rolling for the first event, Caitriona Cartwright (lettercutter and carver in stone) has agreed to fulfil the role.

Caitriona’s work is well known from the Haymakers Gallery in Hay-on-Wye and also from the Crickhowell Open Studios weekend. Concertgoers can browse around her exhibition in the church and talk with her before and after the performance and during the interval.

Tickets at £12 each are available from: Abergavenny Music, Ardent Gallery (Brecon), Crickhowell Resource and Information Centre, Haymakers Gallery (Hay-on-Wye),

at the door or by calling 01874 730263. Visit cwmdu-music.org.uk for more information.

On Saturday May 7 the Friends welcome The Eilan Quartet from the Royal Welsh College of Music, on Saturday June 25 The Gelachter Trio and on Saturday September 10 the Gwent Chamber Orchestra
