A MONMOUTHSHIRE hotel has launched a competition to find the county's biggest food enthusiast. Llansantffraed Court Hotel is calling upon people to provide a reason why they are 'Monmouthshire's biggest foodie' as part of its competition in partnership with the Abergavenny Chronicle. The competition is being launched to celebrate culinary expertise in the county, as Monmouthshire is renowned for its local produce and award-winning restaurants, in addition to being the home of Abergavenny Food Festival. To enter, readers are being asked to share a reason in no more than 150 words highlighting why they should be crowned 'Monmouthshire's biggest foodie'. The hotel's head chef, Michael Hendry, will judge the answers. With over a decade's experience in fine dining, Mike was previously Sous Chef at the Michelin starred Crown at Whitebrook. He is passionate about using local produce from trusted Welsh suppliers. The author of the best answer will be crowned 'Monmouthshire's biggest foodie', winning an exclusive visit from Michael Hendry, who will cook a three course dinner for two at the winner's own home. The runner up will win a day's hire of the hotel's all-electric Renault Twizy, 'Tipyn', and will have the opportunity to explore Monmouthshire's countryside with a luxury hamper for two. The entrant at third place will be treated to afternoon tea for four in the hotel's lounge, where local jazz band RedRug play on the first Sunday of every month. To enter, readers need to email their answer with contact details, including a phone number and Monmouthshire address to [email protected]">[email protected] or post it to Abergavenny Chronicle, Nevill Street, Abergavenny, NP7 5AA. Entrants must be Monmouthshire residents. Entries will be accepted until October 10 and the winner will be announced on Monday, October 13. Mike Morgan, owner of Llansantffraed Court, said: "It's brilliant to launch this competition as it is a great opportunity for gourmands to showcase their knowledge and love of food. We encourage budding foodies to come forward and would like to wish all our entrants the best of luck. "You never know, you may be welcoming our head chef into your kitchen very soon!"
