Demonstrators opposed to nuclear weapons will pass through Abergavenny train station in a rolling protest against Britain’s nuclear weapons system.
Marking United Nations Day on Wednesday October 24, campaigners will travel down from Hope, in North Wales, snaking their way through Chester and Wrexham, drumming up support at each station en route. ??Peace Train campaigners hope travellers at stations, and on the trains, will sign petitions, and letters calling for the UK government to support a global nuclear arms ban treaty, and to cancel its £100bn replacement of the UK’s Trident weapons system.
Organisers are collecting signatures locally, and will hand the list to campaigners arriving on the 11.58 train en route to Newport, before presenting the collections to the House of Commons.
The Peace Train campaign has been organised by the Hereford Peace Council, from whom further information can be obtained: [email protected]. The Abergavenny local contact is Gill Branch: [email protected].
