GOYTRE's first in a string of pre-season friendlies saw them knock out an impressive 1-0 victory over Newport County.
Luke Prosser scored the only goal in the second-half of an engaging end to end game, which was Goytre's first under the management of Sean Warton and new coach Steve Gray.
In a summer which has seen a season of change sweep through Plough Road, Dave Melmoth has replaced Paul Greenhalgh as club Chairman and Gary smith and John Bailey now helm Goytre's reserve team.
The reserve team will play their football in the 2010/11 season in the Welsh League as opposed to the Gwent Central league.
Goytre's first team will once again strive for promotion from Welsh League Division Three and to that end will continue to cut their teeth on a handful of pre-season fixtures starting with Caerleon at Plough Road this Saturday. Kick-off is at 2.30pm.
