MORE than £2,000 was raised to help flood victims at a special charity concert held in Crickhowell’s Clarence Hall.

Five fantastic local bands entertained a packed audience last Friday evening as the music rocked, the crowd danced, the bar flowed and a really good time was had by all while helping to support the flood recovery fund.

Dean Christy, Chair of the Clarence Hall Trustees, thanked everyone who attended and those who took part. He told the audience: “It sometimes takes a disaster to bring out the best in people and the reaction of the townspeople to the recent terrible flooding in Crickhowell has once again demonstrated the wonderful community spirit that exists in our town”.

The net total raised from the concert, all of which will be donated to the flood recovery fund, was £2159. The Mayor of Crickhowell, Cllr. Lesley Alexander said, “I would like to express my thanks to Woodfired Summit, who promoted the concert, to the bands, and to the Trustees of the Clarence Hall, all of whom gave their time and took no fees to help raise much-needed funds”.

Dean Christy added, “This phenomenal result was only made possible by the generosity of Giles, Jamie, and all of the Woodfired Summit team who organised and promoted the concert, the performers and, of course, all those who came along and supported the event on the night.”

Giles Sommerwil of Wodfired Summit said, “A lot of our friends and colleagues were affected by the recent flooding in Crickhowell, Abergavenny, Pontypridd and Taffs Well. The people of Crickhowell have supported us since we began putting on shows at the Clarence Hall - we are a new business and really appreciate that - so it just made sense to us to put on a show there to create a positive, musically driven, evening and raise funds to support those affected. We reiterate how grateful we are to Clarence Hall, Ratio Studios, all of the artists and our supporters, without whose generosity the event would not have been possible.”
