ABERGAVENNY'S recent purple patch came to a grinding halt last Saturday when they were undone by Nantyglo in the MBA.
Unfortunately Aber could only manage to win on one rink and were therefore defeated by 87 shots to 76.
Robert Poynter's victorious rink were involved in a close game, recovering from a five shot deficit after losing the first three ends. They sealed victory by winning the last five ends, scoring seven shots to win the game by 21 shots to 16.
The rink of Ieuan Jenkins was never able to gain the lead in their game. They then conceded ten shots between ends 17 and 20 to lose by 30 shots to 20.
The rink of Gethin Hill were involved in a tight affair. After taking a five shot lead by end 15 they conceded nine shots, without reply, over the next five ends. Although scoring two shots on the final end they lost by 18 shots to 16.
After conceding five shots on the first end John Beaton's rink could never wrest the initiative from the Nantyglo rink. They were eventually defeated by 23 shots to 19.
This week-end Abergavenny entertain Rhymney Gwent in the MBA at Avenue Road and play a local derby at Bailey Park in the GBL.
Gilwern Bowling club now competing in the three rink Gwent Bowling League continued their season with a hard earned 65-62 win at Bedwellty Park to maintain their position at the top of the league.
