Abergavenny woman runs for her life!

No, not literally but Laura Collins, of Abergavenny, is training to run the London Marathon in April and she is appearing in a murder mystery called “Run for your life” in March, and it’s all in aid of Hospice UK.

You may have seen her out pounding the streets of Abergavenny, as she runs most days, building up the miles and her stamina to take on that most iconic of runs, the London Marathon, all 26.2 miles of it! Laura started running 10 years ago and took part in several local Race for Life events in aid of Cancer Research UK, motivated by the death of her sister from breast cancer at only 49.

Two years ago, Laura ran to her workplace, Cross Ash Primary School, taught all day, and then ran home again – a round trip of 20 miles – to raise funds for new playground equipment.

“I thought I’d peaked with that effort,” says Laura, “but people kept asking me when I was going to run a marathon, so to keep them quiet, I resolved to run London – it will be my first and last marathon!”

Hospice UK is the charity Laura has chosen to run for. They champion and support the work of more than 200 organisations which provide hospice care across the UK, so that they can deliver the highest quality of care to people with terminal or life limiting conditions and support their families.

Running is not the only talent Laura has; she is also a stalwart of Dai Laughing Productions, who put on murder mystery plays to raise money for various charities, local and national.

A new Murder Mystery, specially written for Laura by Gill Crandon and directed by Tom Ball, entitled “Run for your Life” is being performed on Saturday 12th March at the Park Hotel, Pandy, near Abergavenny.

Tickets cost £16 and are available by contacting 01873 850434 or emailing [email protected]. Tickets include a two course meal and an entertaining evening guessing whodunit, whilst also raising money for the worthwhile cause of Hospice UK.
