Abergavenny Town Council is encouraging as many people as possible to get involved and make poppies in time for the end of World War I events being organised in the town during late October and November.

Needles are already busy clicking and we’ve taken delivery of some knitted and crocheted poppies. A number of craft groups are making felt poppies and schools in Abergavenny will also be making poppies at the beginning of the Autumn term.

White poppies as a symbol of peace are also welcome. Please drop your poppies off at the One Stop Shop, Abergavenny Library or at the Woolcroft shop on Cross Street.

Patterns are available from the Woolcroft Shop on Cross Street or why not pop along to one of the many craft group or knitting groups in Abergavenny such as Abergavenny Crafty Women which meets at the Wellfield Hall in Wellfield close Abergavenny  or the Volunteering for Wellbeing groups which meet at the Wellfield Hall or at?Mardy Park Resource Centre

Councillor Teslin Davies, Mayor of Abergavenny said “This is a great opportunity for different community groups to get involved with the town council to create a fantastic spectacle in the town which will have a special meaning for so many”

As part of the commemorations the finished poppies will be attached to camouflage netting and draped over buildings and railings in the town.

There are lots of patterns on line, it doesn’t matter which pattern you use but preferably the wool should be synthetic as many of the poppies may be displayed outside and synthetic wool is better than real wool.
