Abergavenny Theatre Group makes a welcome return to the Borough Theatre this month with the hilarious Frank Vickery comedy, ‘One O’Clock From the House’.

ATG are travelling back to the 1980s, where the death of an estranged sisters father brings them back together to discuss funeral arrangements, and of course, who gets what.

Taking the lead role of Miriam is one of ATG’s newest members, Clare Jacobs. Clare joined ATG for their January production of Dracula, playing the role of Van Helsing’s devoted assistant, Edda.

Clare is re-united on stage with Janine Davies, Andrea Hitchman and Emma Morris, who together make up this not so close-knit band of sisters, who find out (much to their disgust!) that their father is playing a posthumous joke on them.

Add into the mix, a relative who bakes almond-less almond cakes, a man who’s convinced his shopping trolley is a dog, a very cheeky eight-year-old boy, and a sister who’s a very happy inmate at the local psychiatric home, and let the hilarity commence.

ATG stalwart and chairman, Rob Tollman takes the directing post for this production, finally fulfilling a lifelong goal of directing a Frank Vickery show.

Rob’s no stranger when it comes to comedy, setting up his own comedy group Abergavenny Sidelights Society (ASS!) with a few other ATG members in 2008, and performing in the Edinburgh Fringe festival in 2009.

“This year is an extremely special year for ATG, as it sees us celebrating our 50th Anniversary,” said Rob.

“ATG were banded together when theatre companies ‘Aber Civil Defence’ and ‘Gavenny Players’ merged into one to put on their first production ‘Under Milk Wood’ in October 1966 – the company has put on more than 100 since!”

“I joined the group as a teenager back in 1989 and have enjoyed a fair few of those,” he continued.

“One of the lovely things about ATG is it is a very friendly group that has always been open to a vast range of ideas and productions and we hope to find something for everyone. We have a great cast in this latest show and hopefully audiences will enjoy it as much as I’ve enjoyed directing it.”
