ABERGAVENNY cycling star Becky James has celebrated an Olympic keirin silver medal in a nail biting race which saw her come from the back of the pack to take second place.

Becky, 24, missed the London Games and then had the best part of 18 months out with a knee injury and a cancer scare.

After a brilliant performance in the semi final she ended up in last place with one lap to go in the final but found a way around the outside to force her way into second on the line to win Britain’s fourth medal on the track.

Speaking immediately after the run Becky, who was watched by her boyfriend rugby player George North, parents, sisters and other family members, said she was delighted and speechless.

She thanked her family for their support during the past two years, adding that it felt as if it was their medal too.
