Bell ringers from five local churches helped celebrate the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in their own unique way.
The bands joined forces ( with 19 ringers in total) and travelled to each of the towers in turn and rang for forty five minutes in each.
The ringing started at The Church of St Teilo, Llantilio Crosenny before moving on to St Bridget’s Church, Skenfrith and then The Church of St Nicholas, Grosmont.
A much deserved lunch was enjoyed in The Angel Inn and, of course, something with which to toast the newlyweds!
After another journey through the beautiful countryside the afternoon session began at St Teilo’s, Llantilio Pertholey before the final ringing at St Mary’s, Abergavenny.
The ringers then continued the day of celebrations with a visit to another Angel Hotel!
Bell ringing is unique, fun, sociable, rewarding and it is a privilege.
To enjoy this experience there only two requisites – to be able to climb the spiral staircase to get to the ringing chamber – and in the case of St Mary’s, be able to count to 10 as there are 10 bells.
“We are a very friendly band of ringers and would gladly welcome newcomers,” said Catherine Jones.
“No previous experience necessary. Practise night is a Monday from 7.30 – 9pm, however, there is no practise for four weeks as the Tower Captain Mike Hoult and his wife Val are cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats. We wish them good luck and safe cycling,” she said.
