Hereford - 0
Abergavenny - 5
THE last of Abergavenny's hat-trick of pre-season friendlies ended with a resounding 0-5 spanking of Hereford.
The Aber team boasted no less than seven members under the age of 18, so Hereford were always going to be challenged for pace in all areas of the park.
Attacking the Hereford defence from the word go, some quick 'one touch passing' eliminated several defenders and won Aber a free hit just outside the opposition 'D'.
The ball was immediately played wide and directed across the opposition base line. Within two minutes of the starting whistle, the ball was in the back of the opposition net, courtesy of a well drilled shot by Kevin Phillips.
The 'keeper was soon fishing the ball back out of the net three minutes later from a deflected shot by right wing Gareth Brinn.
2-0 down and Hereford were subjected to a prolonged Aber attack with shots from Tom Mcglyn, Nick Fackrell, Andy Banks, and Tony Clements.
Towards the end of the first half Hereford won a short (penalty) corner. However, Goal Keeper Alex Mcglyn was more than equal to the task, making a good save to his left, and placing the ball squarely in the face of the left back Geraint Davies.
Tony Clements, found the corner of the net two minutes into the second half. A second goal by man of the match Gareth Brinn, and a storming run from the centre of defence by Ricky Mcglyn completely finished Hereford off.
Aber have now won all three of their pre-season friendlies, which bodes well for the coming season.
Abergavenny have two men's sides, a ladies side and several junior teams covering all age groups. New members are always welcome, please see the Abergavenny Hockey Club Website for more information.
Man of the Match Gareth Brinn dives to score Abergavenny's 4th goal of the game, - Tony Clements looking on.
