UNDER the guidance of coaches Jason Strange and Gareth Taylor, almost 50 players have been participating in pre-season training for Abergavenny RFC at Bailey Park.

In the warm-up to what promises to be an exciting return to Division Two East for Aber - who snatched a last minute promotion place earlier this year - the club have arranged a number of pre-season friendly fixtures at Bailey Park for the coming weeks.

On Saturday, August 16, the first XV will play Hereford, before showdowns with Caerleon

and Bridgend Athletic on the subsequent Saturdays.

As Bridgend Athletic are currently in Division Two West, the last friendly should be a good test of Aber's credentials before heading into the 2008/09 season.

The claret and amber's season kicks off in earnest with a home fixture on Saturday, September 6 against last season's Division Three South East runners up, who gained promotion in the play-offs on the same day Aber beat Cardigan.

Both sides will be looking to place a marker in Division Two, and the club are hoping for a big crowd to get the ball rolling.
