AROUND 100 people were treated to a taste of Syrian cuisine at a Food Festival fringe event organised by Abergavenny Town of Sanctuary.

The evening of food and music took place in Abergavenny Community Centre, Park Street on Thursday, September 13th when representatives of the town’s Syrian community created a menu from their homeland.

Abergavenny has welcome two families from the war-torn country who have been supported by the Town of Sanctuary movement.

Abergavenny Town of Sanctuary was formed in 2015 and began by making links with refugees in Cardiff via the Welsh Refugee Council by organising days out.

The group are currently involved in English language practice, voluntary work opportunities, employment opportunities, affordable rented accommodation and website development.
