IN 2009 Llangorse sailing club were approached by Powys county council's disability sports officer Beverley Tucker to see if the club would be interested in hosting a water sports fun day for people with disabilities.
The club willingly agreed to do so and the day attracted over 60 people with a range of disabilities including those confined to wheel chairs.
The participants had the opportunity to go out onto the lake in the sailing club's training dinghies, specialist dinghies, kayaks belonging to members of the Ocean Kayaking organisation, and a few rode out on the lake in one of the club's safety boats.
It was quite amazing how many people took the opportunity to get out onto the water and the sea of smiling faces was ample compensation for those who had volunteered to assist on the day.
By 2010 word had spread and last year's event attracted over 80 people who enjoyed the day immensely.
As the last two year's events have been so successful, the club were asked to host the event again in 2011 and it will be held at Llangorse sailing club this Saturday from 10-4pm.
There will be a free BBQ and it will be possible to purchase tea, coffee, sweets and other snacks from the galley during the day.
So why not pop along and have a wonderful watery weekend.
