Woman rescued in mountain fall
Mountain rescuers were called out on Sunday afternoon when a woman slipped and broke her ankle.
The 38-year-old woman, from Warrington, was part of a walking group when the accident happened on a mountain ridge near Grwyne Fawr Reservoir.
Gwent Police called on Abergavenny-based Longtown Mountain Rescue Team and the injured woman was treated at the scene by a team medic and then stretchered down the mountain and taken to Nevill Hall Hospital.
Longtown MRT team leader Luke Lewis said, ‘The walking group was very well equipped and had put her into a survival shelter while they waited for us to arrive. They did exactly the right thing.
‘It was a painful injury. We wish her the best for a speedy recovery and hope she is back in the mountains again soon.’
The team was joined in the rescue operation by colleagues from Merthyr-based Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team.
