Monmouthshire Trading Standards is warning Abergavenny residents be wary of a scam involving bogus companies claiming to be affiliated or endorsed by Trading Standards.
The scammers offer to check any insulation work that has been carried out which is causing damp. They will then ask for money to make a claim on behalf of the residents.
Trading Standards officers are warning people to think twice before agreeing to a visit from these people. The work may well be unnecessary, have an excessive cost and could lead to further works being required to rectify potentially poor workmanship.
Abergavenny residents are further receiving bogus phone calls from scammers stating that they are checking your NHS registration and what prescriptions you are on. The scammers then attempt to sell vitamin tablets to complement prescription medicines. These vitamins are likely to be unregistered and therefore potentially dangerous if consumed.
Trading Standards Officers are strongly advising residents not to pass on or confirm any personal information over the phone and to consider the implications before purchasing such items.
If anyone believes they have received a bogus call they should contact Citizens Advice Consumer Services on 03454 040506.
