An Abergavenny man has been jailed after making repeated abusive calls to police to ask about his girlfriend’s whereabouts. ??Colin Morgan, 37, of Underhill Crescent, called police officers three times on July 17, and made abusive remarks.
??Morgan made a total of 11 phone calls to the police since March this year, often whilst drunk, and was labelled a ‘nuisance’ by district judge David Parsons. ??Morgan plead guilty at Cwmbran Magistrates’, whilst also admitting burglary and possession of a cannabis plant. ??The court heard that Morgan had stolen tools worth over £3,000 from a puppetry workshop on Park Street in Abergavenny, the day before his abusive telephone tirade.
Morgan took the tools from the community hall after smashing into the workshop with an axe, later hiding the loot in a bush after he was seen at the premises, the court heard. ??Prosecuting. Chris Rose said the tools were valued at £3,205. ??Isobelle Lewis, defending, said Morgan often made calls whilst under the influence of alcohol, but expressed a desire to turn his life around. ??“He drank four litres of Stella before he made the phone calls,” she said. Ms Lewis added that her client had struggled with alcohol problems for a lengthy period. ??In summary, Judge Parsons said he was ‘alarmed’ at Morgan’s previous record, and a jail sentence was inevitable given that he had breached a previous suspended sentence for burglary. ??“You have 37 court appearances for 112 convictions, including 47 of these for dishonesty,” he said. ??“Your calls to the police take away a vital resource from the Abergavenny community.”
Morgan was sentenced to 46 weeks in prison for the three offences, and will be subject to a criminal behaviour order for three years. ??He was also fined £115. ?
