On Bank Holiday Monday the Abergavenny U13 Boys made the trip to the Welsh Finals in Swansea. First up were Dysynn who immediately attacked and put Aber under pressure. Aber countered well and soon made an opening for themselves, allowing Hollis McGlynn to open their account. Dysynni bounced back and managed to equalise almost immediately. However, Abergavenny soon restored the lead through Fred Oubridge Brock and went in at half time 2-1 up. In the second half Dysynni found Aber's flowing style of hockey hard to cope with and further goals followed from Elis Mostyn and George Rice to give Abergavenny the perfect 1-4 start. Next up was Northop Hall who Abergavenny have never played before. From the whistle Aber pushed forward and goals soon came thick and fast from Elis Mostyn, George Rice and Hollis McGlynn (two) to put Abergavenny up 4-0 at half time. The second half continued in the same vein as earlier with play flowing and Abergavenny showing no mercy. Another five well taken goals were scored by Fred Oubridge Brock, Chris Taylor, George Rice and Elis Mostyn (two) to complete the rout and make it 0-9 to Abergavenny. The whole season now came down to one last game against old rivals Whitchurch. It was a winner take all situation. After their defeat in the South Wales finals, Whitchurch started strong but Abergavenny held firm and Elis Mostyn scored the first goal which settled the nerves. Play continued end to end and at one point Whitchurch thought they had equalised but the goal was disallowed. Half-time came with no further score. Despite tired legs, Aber came out determined to give it their all for the final 10 minutes. Whitchurch kept pushing forward but Aber's defence of Daniel Mills and George Rice held firm and Tom Lane made several crucial saves. Abergavenny kept pushing and Archie Oubridge Brock secured the 2-0 victory to the delight of his team. The whistle blew and Aber were crowned Welsh champs. Captains Hollis McGlynn and Elis Mostyn gratefully accepted the trophy on behalf of the Abergavenny team of Tom Lane, Taliesin Martin, Alex Francis, Chris Taylor, Daniel Mills, Archie and Fred Oubridge Brock, George Rice, Hollis McGlynn and Elis Mostyn.
