Abergavenny Squash Club’s ‘E’ team entertained Cwmbran ‘B’, and just lost 3-2. Jiwan Gahunia and Chris Carver managed victories, but it was too late to save the match as the first three ties were lost! The team drop one more place into sixth.

The ‘D’ team travelled to Monmouth ‘C’ to play the other top side in the division, and lost this important match by five matches to nil. Overall, this was a disappointing result, even though the side fought hard and all the games were close. After this setback, the team drops from first to third, and now have a fight on its hands if it wants to achieve promotion.

On the same night, the ‘B’ team returned to winning ways with a good victory against bottom side Abercynon by four matches to one. Even without its top player, Ed Leakey, the side continues to impress, and continues its march towards promotion, being in first place. Next week’s match will be important against the side lying second, but our team still has a match in hand.

The ‘C’ team entertained a competent Risca side and blew them away by five matches to nil. This was an excellent performance from a side which is now in second place and is going from strength to strength, but there is still a long way to go before it can achieve promotion, as Caldicot is eleven points clear with a match in hand. Still, we can but hope, and the match against Caldicot in the next fortnight is going to be crucial.
