THE ABERGAVENNY Festival of Cycling was hailed a success after thousands of fans and riders descended on the town last weekend.

Festival organiser Bill Owen said, "It was another great weekend for everyone who rode in the events or watched from the barriers that lined the streets.

"But the festival would not go ahead without the help of some very important partners and volunteers. I would like to thank Gwent Police, the rider escorts, marshals and stewards who worked hard on helping the riders in all events right across the weekend.

"I would also like to thank our friends at Monmouthshire County and Abergavenny Town Councils, Kinetica, who supplied much-needed fluid nutrition during the Sportif, and our charity partners North Gwent Cardiac Rehabilitation and Aftercare, along with all the local sponsors and businesses for their help.

"And we would like to thank all the fans, spectators and supporters of cycling right across the UK for taking part in our festival.

"But most of all, we would like to thank the people of Abergavenny and Monmouthshire for allowing us to bring such exceptional sport to your doorsteps and making us truly the cycling capital of Wales."
