THREE members of Crickhowell Bowls Club were recently crowned County Triple Champions after winning the Monmouthshire County Championship at Bedwelty Park, Tredegar.

In front of a large crowd, Tim Rees, Peter Stahl and Steve Toms defeated a team from Pontymister Bowls Club that included Welsh international Ian Slade and now go on to represent Monmouthshire in the Welsh Championship at Llandrindod Wells later in the season.

At the halfway stage Crickhowell were losing ten shots to three but they fought back brilliantly to take the lead 11 shots to ten and from that point they dominated the match to emerge as eventual winners 16 shots to ten.

Tim Rees led well throughout the game while Peter Stahl supported equally well at number two and Steve Toms from Bwlch bought off some superb game changing deliveries.

All at Crickhowell Bowls Club will be hoping that they can reproduce their match winning form at Llandrindod Wells and become the first Crickhowell representative to win a Welsh Championship.

On August 31, six members of Crickhowell Bowls Club will be hoping to establish a new entry in the Guinness Book of World Records when they will be taking part in a marathon 12 hour bowls match starting at 8am. The format of the record attempt has been set by the Guinness Record Book officials and will be overseen by independent observers. The attempt is part of the club's fund raising activities to raise cash to maintain the bowling green and clubhouse at Crickhowell.
