Goytre - 3

Newport YMCA - 1

GOYTRE'S victory over the young men from Newport's YMCA on the weekend make it 14 league wins on the bounce for the Plough Road outfit who are currently sitting pretty on top of Welsh League Division Two with 42 points.

From the first whistle Goytre took the bull by the horns and began to boss Newport around the park.

Calum Miles opened the home team's account 35 minutes in when he sent a low shot rocketing into the away keeper's net.

YMCA made a fist of things and came right back at Goytre three minutes later when some good work down the left flank enabled centre forward Nick Potts the opportunity to level proceedings.

Despite the remainder of the half being dominated by plenty of strong attacking play by both teams the whistle blew for the interval with both sides locked all square at 1-1.

Into the second half and Goytre looked full of spark, but fair play to the YMCA they defended tenaciously until 52 minutes in when Kyle Basset headed home from close range.

Newport kept their heads up and their tail high but despite a period of sustained pressure they were unable to break down the stirling Goytre defence.

The game was put to bed 13 minutes before the final whistle when YMCA substitute Nicholas Medhurst slid in to clear a low cross from the right and ended up scoring a home goal.

Not about to look a gift horse in the mouth, Goytre began to run rampant in the last ten minutes and could have netted on at least a couple more occasions.

As it was they didn't but they retain the crown of unbeaten league leaders, 11 points ahead of nearest rivals Ammanford, who they'll play away this Saturday.
