GOVILON AFC is pleased to announce a plum pre-season fixture when Southern League Merthyr Town FC bring their first team to the village for a match which is being billed as the 'Terry Jones Memorial Match'.

Terry who was affectionately known as "Chopper" and was very well known amongst the local footballing community, passed away earlier this year.

A club spokesman said, "This match is a fitting tribute to Terry who gave so much to local football right up to his death. We hope people will turn out in numbers in memory of him, and also to support the club which has worked tirelessly to secure this fixture. We are indebted to Merthyr Town for agreeing to travel to play us, and congratulate them on re-gaining Southern League status."

The match is being played next Tuesday (July 24) at Govilon's Recreation ground with a 7.30pm kick off. Admission and car parking is free. Special edition match day programmes detailing Merthyr Town's Football League years will be on sale at £1.50 each, and there will be a raffle which both club's spectators will generously support."
