TAEKWONDO ace Maddie Davies recently made the step up to international senior level when she travelled to Poland to compete in the Polish Warsaw Cup.

This G1 competition is an international professional ranking event and Maddie dominated against three opponents, beating Austria 11 - 4, Slovenia 13 - 4, and Greece 15 - 6. She went out to the eventual winner of the category, Russia, and finished with a Bronze G1 medal – quite an achievement for a 17-year-old.

Later in September the King Henry VIII student was in London to take part in the British Nationals. Maddie sailed through the semis, winning 26 - 3.

In the finals she met a fellow GB Squad member and narrowly lost out by one point in the last 20 seconds, taking -57 runner up.

Maddie travelled to Manchester last weekend after being selected to take part in #DiscoverYour Gold, the biggest multi-sport talent identification campaign in British history.

#DiscoverYour Gold aims to identify talented young athletes aged 15-24 years, taking the first step to discover their Olympic potential.

Phase one involved assessments on technical ability, tactical understanding and competitive drive, taking part in full-contact combat situations as well as anthropometry and physio screening.

The end of October will see successful athletes of Phase one invited back for further testing in November.
