ON the last Super Saturday of the 2018/2019 season, Abergavenny’s senior sides joined Storm Hannah on the home pitch to secure two wins for the Ladies and a loss but decent game for the Men.

Ladies Seconds (pictured), started the day in style with a 2-0 victory against Cardiff Medics Thirds, thanks to some quality defending and attacking and two goals scored by Eliza Atkins and Captain Alannah Williams.

Abergavenny Ladies Firsts went up against Swansea Fifths in a mid-table clash. Using their wingers to spread the ball wide around Swansea, Abergavenny reached half time with three goals in the bag. Still with a lot to play for, Abergavenny found Swansea coming back stronger in the second half, testing their defence on a number of occasions. Though the home team maintained a high level of composure, two Swansea balls found the back of the net to bring the score to 3-2. Having won their last two games, Abergavenny found their winning ways and were able to secure one more goal to safely finish the game 4-2.

Abergavenny Men took on Lansdown, unfortunately coming away with a 3-6 loss. Missing some core members of the team, and against a good opposition, the defeat comes with no disgrace – onwards and upwards.

On Sunday, the U13s tournament in Pontypridd resulted in a tough two loses and two well held draws for Abergavenny. The girls played extremely well, improving in each game, and are now well on their way to the cup at the end of this month.

Finally, Abergavenny Ladies Development travelled to Cwmbran to play Gwent and work on their game. One Abergavenny goal by Nia Johns was followed by a Gwent goal, and, perhaps with tired legs from a weekend of hockey, Abergavenny walked away with a 2-1 loss after another Gwent ball hit the back of the net with no time to amend.
