Abergavenny Squash Club’s ‘D’ team entertained one of its promotion rivals, Risca ‘D’, and narrowly lost by three matches to two. Mitchell Lawrence had a comfortable win, and Gary Hortop won well on his return from injury, but it was not to be! The team stay in third place.

The ‘E’ team travelled to the league leaders Monmouth ‘C’ and were beaten 5-0. Peter Sturgess just lost 3-2, having been 2-1 up, but elsewhere it was tough! The team remain in seventh place.

On the same night, the ‘B’ team continued its impressive run towards the title with another 5-0 victory over Llanishen ‘A’. The highlight of the night was the first string match, which John Proctor won 15-14 after a long rally with a beautiful drop shot! Can anybody stop this team?

The ‘C’ team were visited by another Caldicot side going for possible promotion, and had a convincing 5-0 triumph. The side remain top of the league, but its destiny lies with the outstanding results remaining from the other stronger Caldicot side, which has games in hand.

The ‘A’ team visited Cardiff, and lost a close match 3-2. Gareth Hughes-Jones came in for his first match of the season, and had an impressive 3-1 win, with Lewys Hurst also winning comfortably to maintain his unbeaten record for the season. However, with results elsewhere going against them, the side drop from third to fifth, but there are only four points covering these three teams.

Finally, last week, the club’s development team, which is a mixture of beginners and juniors, travelled to Monmouth to play a similar team, and won by three matches to one.

First up was James Greenhill, who lost a very close match with many long rallies by three sets to two. He was followed on court by Matthew Hughes, who played very well and beat his older female opponent 3-1. Finally, the club’s two youngest players, Joseph Morden and Matthew Davies, who are both 12 years of age, had very close games with equally matched juniors, and in both cases managed to prevail 3-0.
