Abergavenny Squash Club’s ‘E’ team travelled to Abertillery for a top of the table clash, and lost by four matches to one. However, the match was much closer that the score line suggests, as both Dean Jackson-Johns and Stuart Lewis lost in five sets, having been ahead in both their matches. The team drop into third place, but promotion is a real possibility if they maintain this form.

The ‘E’ team played host to Newport and won 3-2. Chris Owen won easily, and both Mitchell Lawrence and Mark Nicholls won in five sets. However, the result was somewhat marred by a nasty injury to Matthew Thomas that will almost certainly put him out of action until after Xmas. The club all hope for his speedy recovery. The team are in fifth place, but have a game in hand on their rivals at the top, so all things are possible!

The ‘C’ team played at home against the league leaders, and not surprisingly went down by four matches to one. Their only success was achieved by Carl Whiteman, who played well given he was recovering from a difficult injury. Special mention must be made of captain Mike Logan, who, although losing 3-0, did so to an opponent who was playing in Premier ‘A’ only five months ago. Mike actually won the first seven points in the match and raised a lot of eyebrows! The team lie in fifth place, and should go up the table as there are easier matches to come.

The ‘B’ team travelled to Cowbridge, and continued their impressive form with another victory, winning 4-1. However, it was a tight match with both Gareth Hughes-Jones and Mitchell Lawrence just squeezing wins in five sets. The team stay in first place, but will have to work hard and play well to stay there.

Finally, the ‘A’ team broke their duck for the season, easily winning by five matches to nil at Barry. The team was at full strength, and it showed. Only two sets were lost in the entire match, and the team climb off the bottom, and should now start to climb the table.
