Abergavenny Squash Club’s ‘B’ team continued their impressive start to the season, beating close rivals Rhiwbina ‘C’ 3-2, and moving to the top of the table with a game in hand. The match was tight, but with John Proctor, Carl Whiteman, and Chris Phelps all winning without losing a set, the team squeezed a win!

Against Monmouth the ‘E’ team finally won a match, which they had failed to achieve for over 18 months and three seasons! Given his sterling performances over these months, it was disappointing that captain Tony Davies lost his match, but he was severely incapacitated with a bad back, and only played as a last resort. However, he was well pleased to be part of the side that finally broke its duck. With other results going their way, the team rise to the heady heights of third place!

The ‘D’ team lost to table-topping Risca ‘B’ by four matches to one. The highlight of the evening proved to be the debut of Gary Hartop, who won a tight match against a good opponent, but this proved to be the only success in a disappointing evening. The team drop into fifth place, but will rise up the table in the coming weeks.

The ‘C’ team continued their march towards the title and promotion with another 3-2 win over Caldicot ‘B’. The star of the night proved to be another debutant, Mathew ‘Spud’ Pomfret, who won the final match by three sets to one,and ensured victory. He was supported by both Mike Logan, and Matthew Thomas, who won comfortably. The team remain top.

The ‘A’ team finally got their game going, winning easily against the bottom side Cardiff ‘A’ by five matches to nil. Only two sets were lost all night, so it was a fine performance all round! The team climb into fourth place, a fair reflection on their season so far.
