PAUL Spooner from Raglan finished runner up co-driver in this year's REIS BTRDA MSA National Gravel Rally Championship.
The championship comprises nine rounds from all over the UK with the first six rounds of eight to count in the final tally. When dropped scores were taken in account, Spooner finished on 168 points, six behind the winner. Spooner's driver, Steve Perez, won the championship for drivers.
Last weekend's Cambrian Rally, based in Llandudno, was won by Dave Weston and Kirsty Riddick in a Subaru Impreza WRC, 20 seconds ahead of Steve Perez and Paul Spooner in a Ford Focus WRC, with Paul Bird and Aled Davies in another Ford Focus WRC, 12 seconds behind Perez.
Another local driver who has been improving his results all year is Sean Edwards. Consistently getting faster all year, Edwards finished the Cambrian in 16th place overall and third in the H3 class. In the overall championship Sean finished 14th overall. His Rally Weld backed Ford Escort Mk 2 has been one of the smartest turned out entries in the championship.
