AN Abergavenny woman is on a mission to highlight the life-long benefits of sport and exercise to girls.
Sian Morgan (left) has taken up a new role, alongside for Great Britain and Wales lacrosse player Laura Warren (right), at Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.
Sian, who will be teaching netball, grew up in Pandy and is a former pupil at King Henry VIII School in Abergavenny.
Her brother, Jethro Binns works as a squash coach after playing the sport professionally.
“The overriding goal for us is to have a positive influence on the lives of the girls and to promote the well-being and lifelong benefits of sport and exercise,” said Sian.
Sian played netball for South-East Wales and the county, was member of the Wales Development Squad, captained Exeter University and played for the English Universities team.
She is a former Head of Girls’ PE at St Peter’s Preparatory School in Devon and was Head of the Netball Academy at Bodmin College in Cornwall.
“The girls at Monmouth are very keen and able, enthusiastic and have been a pleasure to teach,” said Mrs Morgan.
“We have some very exciting months ahead with the netball, including the Habs’ Seven tournament, which our first team won last season.”
Director of Sport at Monmouth School for Girls, Miss Lou Scott, said, “We are delighted to welcome Sian to Haberdashers’ Monmouth Schools.
“Her knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm will not only bolster our department but, importantly, will improve the experience of our students further.
“She is passionate about sport, exercise and education and will be a very positive and popular addition to our schools.”
