G B Liners Marches League Division 4 (West).
Glangrwyney 2nds 156 for 8
Moccas 160 for 3.
Glangrwyney seconds travelled to the picturesque Moccas ground and went down to a comprehensive seven wicket defeat.
On losing the toss for the 3rd successive match Glan were duly inserted and openers Steve Jerrams (44) and John Parkinson opened. Parkinson then ran himself out without facing a ball. The in form Dan Bowen (66) then joined veteran Jerrams and both were made to work for their runs with the evergreen Bill Bowen bowling as accurately as ever in his 40-year playing career, his analysis being 10 overs, 7 maidens, 15 runs and no wickets. Having seen off Bowen and fellow bowler Ollie Price (0 for 24 off 10) Jerrams and Bowen found runs easier to come by and these two batsmen put on a commendable 122 for the second wicket. Bowen was then well caught with the score at 124 off 30 overs and with just 10 overs left and wickets in hand Glan were looking for a score of 185-plus but Jim Astle (7) was then bowled and Rick James (6) and Nicky Jones were both out to excellent catches on the boundary in trying to accelerate the score, leaving Glans final total score being a disappointing 157 for 8.
After a sumptuous tea, Moccas’ openers Ollie Price (12) and skipper John Davies (44) started steadily against good bowling from Haydn Davies (0 for 23 off 7) and Jack Hooper (0 for 25 off 7). A couple of catches went close to hand but it was change bowler Eryl Cooke (2 for 31 off 6) who got the breakthrough with a well caught behind from Dan Bowen. In his second over Cooke then had A. James out with a sharp stumping from Bowen to leave Moccas 65 for 2 off 17. Jonty Jones (1 for 36 off 6) dismissed Davies with a great catch by veteran Haydn Davies at deep extra cover but that was as good as it got with hard-hitting batsman E. Carne (32n.o) and D. Hobby (46n.o.) seeing Moccas home in just 29 overs to leave Glan next to bottom.
