COURTESY of a Community Chest Grant Sean Jones (pictured above) has attended and been successfully awarded his Tennis Development Coach Award (DCA).
Since enrolling on the tennis leaders course at the age of 14, Abergavenny boy Sean has demonstrated a flair for coaching and has passed all three stages to date.
Following his success on the DCA Sean was recruited onto the Tennis Wales Young Coaches Programme (YCP). The YCP is a unique opportunity for a select number of young enthusiastic Welsh coaches to be given further education, training and guidance in all areas of
club/performance coaching.
The initiative will be for a maximum of three years for each coach, allowing them to gain a foundation in all areas of tennis coaching but also to pick the route they are most passionate about to follow more intensely for the further development of their coaching career.
Tennis Wales Coach Development Manager Ellie Lewis said, "Sean has successfully gained a place on the YCP. He is a gifted communicator on-court and brings energy to his coaching which benefits all of his players. He is an exciting prospect and will no doubt head up his own programme in the future. He is fortunate to be in such a supportive environment at Abergavenny Tennis Club where he has been mentored by the coaches and committee there."
Anyone age 13 or above (including adults) interested in the Tennis Leaders award can contact the club at the email [email protected]">[email protected].
