THE most famous ref in Wales, Nigel Owens, was on hand to see what a mug had been made of his good self at the Eisteddfod this week.

Abergavenny based Company Mugbys launched the latest addition to their extensive range of Welsh Rugby Mugs at the Neuadd Arddangos (exhibition Hall) on the Maes

Mal Humphreys, better know as Mumph, is the designer behind the Mugbys and told the Chronicle, “We’d already designed the Nigel Ref Owens Mugby for the 2015 Rugby World Cup and it seemed quite fitting given Nigel’s Welsh roots and his passion for all things Welsh that we translated the design to produce our very first Welsh language Mugby."

The design shows a caricature of the World famous Welsh Rugby Referee uttering those immortal words “This Is not soccer.”

"Translating the design needed a bit of thought as we had to translate the Limerick too,” explained Mumph, who added, "Fortunately Wales is full of poets and it wasn’t difficult to find a Rugby loving poet who could translate the limerick without losing any of it sentiments and humour.”

Attending the launch, Nigel Owens said, "I’m absolutely delighted with the Mugby. I’m really pleased they decided to go ahead with a Welsh language version".

When asked if he thought that Mumph had made a complete ‘mug’ of him? Nigel simply said, “Yes."

The Mugbys are designed and produced in Abergavenny and are available on www.mugbys.gift or from the Cariad shop in Cross street Abergavenny
