Fleur De Lys - 7

Abergavenny RFC - 32

ABERGAVENNY returned from their trip to Fleur De Lys with a resounding 32 points to seven bonus point victory.

The Aber side made several changes. Gareth Williams joined Mat Charles and Jack Williams in the front row. Will Evans returned to partner Josh van Mael in the boiler house. The two Dans, Beavan and Smith flanked captain Josh Davies in the back row.

Ryan Joyce and Matt Sevenoaks played at half back. Rhod Webster and Jacob Buttler formed a new centre partnership. Dan Dunmore, Will Williams, and Dan Hayman slotted into the back three.

The game started badly for Aber. Their kick-off was charged down, collected by the home centre who scored under the posts, 7-0.

The Clarets bounced straight back to force a penalty, kicked by Dan Hayman.

From the restart Abergavenny attacked the Flower line. A quickly taken penalty by Ryan Joyce led to Dan Smith crossing for a well taken try, converted by Hayman.

Abergavenny were now playing with confidence. From a ruck in the opposition 22, Matt Sevenoaks fed Will Evans who made good ground before finding Dan Beavan in close support to take the pass and score under the post. Hayman converted and kicked a further penalty to give Aber a 7-20 lead.

The second half was very much the same from Abergavenny and it was only dogged defence from the home side which prevented the floodgates opening.

Eventually the pressure told when Will Williams scored a scintillating solo try, once again converted by Dan Hayman.

Aber made several changes with forwards Luke Williams, Nathan Thomas, Paul Cornock and Ieuan James entering the fray, alongside Ryan Williams behind the scrum.

Aber turned their game up another level. The ever alert scrum-half Joyce crossed to complete the scoring and give Abergavenny a fine 32-7 away victory.

This was one of Aber’s best displays of the season and the lack of rugby in the next few weeks due to the Autumn internationals could not have come at a worse time. The forthcoming Wales games will all be shown live at the club and every one is welcome to come and watch them.
