ABERGAVENNY delivered a scorching performance against a high-flying Garndiffaith outfit on the weekend which leaves them sitting pretty at the top of the table.
The Abergavenny side had a fairly settled look about it. Nathan Harris started at loose head. Jay Adams and Rob Lothian completed the front row. Dan Horler and Will Evans locked the scrum. The back row had Captain Josh Davies at number eight, flanked by Dan Beavan and Rhys Dawe. Rhob Connick and Rhod Webster slotted in at half back. Nathan Byrne came in at centre with Dan Smith. The back three consisted of Antony Squires and Garin Price on the wings with Josh Parr at full back.
Before kick-off a minute’s silence was observed to pay tribute to club stalwart Ron Hinksmam who passed away this week. Everyone at the club sends their thoughts and best wishes to all his family.
The home side started the game with purpose and determination, keeping the ball well and making the Garn defence work hard. After about ten minutes of constant pressure Aber opened the scoring when captain Josh Davies crashed over from a forward drive.
The home side went straight back on the offensive and after going through numerous phases, winger Antony Squires was put clear to score a second unconverted try.
From the restart the home side seemed to switch off and Garndiffaith took the initiative and scored a try of their own.
Abergavenny reacted by going straight back on the offensive and were soon rewarded with their third try and a second for Josh Davies.
Their forth and bonus point try followed when Dan Beavan stole a line out and scorched through the defence to score under the posts.
The Garn kept their head up and were rewarded with their second try to leave the game finely balanced, 22-14 at half time.
The second-half was business as usual with Aber dominating and Rhob Connick sniping over to score a fine individual try .
Aber’s coaches rung the changes with Gareth Williams and Matt Charles bolstering the pack, and Matt Sevenoaks in the three quarters.
Yet once again the Garn bounced back when they scored a converted try from an unfortunate interception.
Aber upped the ante and replacements Matt Charles and Sam Vaughan scored two more tries in quick succession to make the game safe.
Squires finished the scoring with his brilliant second try to leave the final score 44-2.
Due to the autumn internationals Aber’s next home game is against Nantyglo on December 1.
