Cross Ash’s Hallam Amos has been selected by Warren Gatland as part of the Wales’ squad for this year’s Six Nations.

Following an early exit from the World Cup in the epic Wales V England encounter with a shoulder dislocation, Hallam Amos made a dream return from injury by scoring a try in under a minute for the Dragons in their crucial Challenge Cup victory over Castres last Saturday.

The winger announced it was “great to be back” after running in a try with his first touch of the game during his comeback for the Dragons at Rodney Parade.

Amos followed his impressive start with the sort of all-round display that gave no evidence he had been out of action for nigh on four months, as the plucky youngster staked his claim for a place in Gatland’s Six Nations outfit.

Prior to his selection in Gatland’s 37-man squad, the five-times capped 21-year-old admitted he was just relieved to be back from injury and wasn’t overtly optimistic about being picked for the Six Nations.

“I haven’t thought too much about it really. I just wanted to get back on the pitch with the Dragons and what happens, happens.

“It’s a tough one because I’m only just back from injury and there are other boys playing really well at the moment.”

Although surprised to be picked, Amos insisted he always wanted to recover in time to be in contention for the Six Nations.

“I was always aiming to be back around this time and I’m back a couple of weeks ahead of schedule, which is good,” he revealed.

“You can do all the fitness and training you want, but nothing prepares you for the match.

“I remember looking up at the clock and only seven minutes had gone and I was wondering if I was going to be able to make half time!

“But it’s great to be back out there and the more game-time you get, the easier it will be become.”

Warren Gatland has named a 37-man squad for the 2016 RBS 6 Nations that features one uncapped player in scrum-half Aled Davies and squad recalls for Tom James and Josh Turnbull.

The experienced squad includes 31 players who featured for Wales in the 2015 Rugby World Cup and will be led by Wales’ most experienced captain Sam Warburton.

Alongside Amos, the back three players include Tom James, George North, Alex Cuthbert, Gareth Anscombe, Matthew Morgan and Liam Williams.

Gatland explained, “We have selected a squad that rewards players form as well as picking a lot of experience and that continuity is important to us.

"We have picked a larger squad than normal, we have a few injuries at the moment, those players aren’t too far away from getting back on the field so we are happy with the mix.”

Wales kick off their 2016 campaign away to reigning champions Ireland on Sunday February 7 before welcoming Scotland to Principality Stadium on Saturday February 13.
