Abergavenny RFC - 15
Garndiffaith RFC - 34
Abergavenny entered their match against Garndiffaith relatively unchanged, against opposition who have struggled during the first half of the season.
However from the kick off, the home side were pressured in their own 20 metre area resulting in a converted penalty for an infringement at the ruck.
There followed 15-20 minutes of play in the midfield area, with any endeavour by the home side falling short due to error and their inability to finish.
The difference between the sides for this period was the Garndiffaith scrum half, who free of pressure, seized the initiative with accurate positional kicking putting Abergavenny on the back foot.
Following a short period of pressure, the Abergavenny scrum half misdirected his pass to the fullback who, looking surprised to receive the ball, kicked it out on the full. From the resulting line-out, Abergavenny again infringed at the breakdown resulting in an easy penalty conversion.
A further try made it 0-11, which rallied Abergavenny who used their forwards to smash through as Ieuan James muscled over for an unconverted try.
The half ended with another penalty by the visitors to make it 5-14.
Abergavenny visibly raised the tempo following the break and Josh Parr put over a penalty, but the Garn bounced back with not one but three tries to put the game out of reach at 8-34.
In the dying minutes, Abergavenny opened up and moved the ball through several phases to release the ever present Josh Davies to run in from the 20 metre line and score between the posts.
This was the highpoint of a lacklustre performance for Abergavenny who will need to rally for their fixture this Saturday at Gowerton in Round Three of the WRU National Plate.
