Garndiffaith RFC - 20

Abergavenny RFC - 15

On a very wet windy afternoon Abergavenny traveled to play old rivals Garndiffaith hoping to win their fourth game on the trot.

The away side started the game playing into a howling gale but soon gained a foot hold in Garn territory due to their set piece dominance. From a scrum in front of the posts Aber were awarded a penalty, kicked by Matthew Edwards, 3-0.

That turned out to be Abergavenny’s first and last score off the half as Garndiffaith played the conditions very well, aided by Genny’s very poor discipline, to end the half with a 15-3 advantage, courtesy of five penalties.

Playing with the wind, Aber managed to gain some territory in the second half and put some pressure on the home side which eventually resulted in a try for Josh Moscardini, converted by Mathew Edwards, 15-10.

Abergavenny were now on top and after good pressure at a line out were awarded a scrum which they drove over the line for Paul Cornock to level the score.

It now looked like the away side would go on to win this game but the Garn had other ideas and upped their game. Gaining a line out close to Aber’s line, they drove over to score the winning try. Overall it was a disappointing result, and one Aber will look to put behind them next week when they play Cwmbran at home.
