Crickhowell RFC - 41
Rogerstone RFC - 12
Crickhowell emerged the victors with a bonus-point win against a gritty Rogerstone on Saturday. Keanu Morris set the tone with a couple of bursting runs early on but it was the hard-working Lewis Logan who was first on the scoreboard after taking the ball from a line-out near the visitors’ line and bursting through.
Soon afterwards, scrum-half Richard Rhydderch-Roberts, set off on a weaving run and flicked the ball out wide to Logan who gained his second try.
In his first appearance for the club, winger Morgan Vaughan showed his mettle by running in Crick’s third, leaving the half-time score at 15-0.
The second half saw newly-returned Adam Howells secure a brace of tries. Both were converted by Tom Keane, who had placed the cross-field kick for Howells to gather and score his second. A determined Rogerstone struck back with a breakaway try of their own, which was converted.
Daniel Bowen scored Crick’s fifth try following a break down the wing and Kallum Groves sealed the victory by dummying and sidestepping his way through with Keane converting. It was Rogerstone who had the final say when their hard work paid off with a final try close to the whistle.
Thanks are due to the match sponsor The Coach and Horses, Llangynidr and ball sponsors Mal Powell and Tony Bowkett. With the much-anticipated Wales/England clash on Saturday there is no game for Crick but March 2 sees a challenging fixture at Parc Broyd against Brynithel RFC, who are level on points in the league.
