Fleur de Lys - 15

A minute’s silence was held in respect of Mr Ken Hewitt before Abergavenny kicked off their home game against Fleur de Lys on a very windy but dry afternoon .

Once again Aber made many changes due to injuries and unavailability. Ryan Morgan came in as emergency hooker and Rob Lothian joined Jamie Knight in the front row. Fred Pursey partnered Dan Horler in the second row with Dan Beavan, Ted Williams and Paul Cornock making up the back row.

Sam Philips made his first start at scrum half and Rodri Webster captained the side from outside half. Stuart Davies returned to the side along with Joel Fleet in the centre. The back three saw Mat Edwards at fullback with Will Williams and Dan Dunmore on the wings.

The away side drew first blood with a penalty goal but this was soon cancelled out when good interplay between Stuart Davies and Dan Horler saw scrum half Sam Philips run 40 metres to score under the posts, converted by Mat Edwards.

The home side were soon back on the attack and fullback Mat Edwards showed fine skill to score a converted try, 14-3.

Aber were now playing free flowing rugby and secured a bonus point by half time with two more tries scored by wingers Dan Dunmore and Will Williams to give Aber a 26-3 lead at half time.

The game seemed to lose momentum in the second half with the referee seemingly content to stop start the game for any minor discretions much to the frustration of both teams and supporters.

This type of game seem to suit Fleur more than Abergavenny and to be fair they never gave up and scored two tries of their own.

The home side completed their scoring with a try in the corner by back row forward Ted Williams, converted wonderfully in the wind by Rhodri Webster to leave the final score 33-15.

Next Saturday Aber entertain Bonymaen in the Welsh Cup.

All at Abergavenny RFC would like to pass on their congratulations to Beth and Rodri Webster on the arrival of their first child, a bouncy baby boy, and hopefully a future outside half for the club.
