Abergavenny RFC - 45
Fleur De Lys - 5
Abergavenny returned to league action at Bailey Park with a thorough trampling of Fleur De Lys.
The result sees the Clarets move to the top of the league for the first time this season.
Once again the Aber team had a settled look about it. Jack Williams Ieuan James and Matt Charles were up front. Will Evans and Luke Williams slotted into the second row, and in the back row, Nathan Thomas was flanked by Rudi Lewis and Dan Beavan. Ryan Joyce and Rhod Webser were the half-backs and there was a new centre partnership of Nathan Byrne and Wil Williams.
Lloyd Holder, Dan Dunmore and Jacob Butler made up the back three.
The game began with Flower taking the initiative, keeping the ball well and putting the home side under a prolonged period of pressure, but Aber’s defence held firm and eventually worked their way out of their half and consolidated a position in Fleur’s territory.
Abergavenny turned the screw and were rewarded with three converted tries by half-time. Two came from centre Will Williams and the other from scrum-half Ryan Joyce.
The second-half was very much business as usual with Jacob Buttler securing the bonus point with an early try, allowing the home side to relax and play some good rugby which resulted in replacement Sam Vaughan scoring two excellent tries.
Although Flower were well beaten they never gave up the ghost and were rewarded with a consolation try late on.
Aber replied in style with their last try scored by replacement scrum half Rhob Connick to leave the final score 45-5 to the home side.
Abergavenny RFC would like to thank their match sponsors Dai Thomas, Eryl Cooke and Tom Moss, who named Abergavenny flanker Dan Beavan as their man of the match.
Next Saturday see Aber travel to Chepstow. The bus leaves the clubhouse at 12.15pm. All support is welcome.
